"Jeeva"
means "Life" and "Udayam" means "Dawn of
Hope"
"JEEVODAYA" means " As long as there is Life there
is Hope"
Jeevodaya is a "HOSPICE FOR Advanced Cancer Patients".
"If I can stop one Heart from Breaking,
I shall not Live in Vain,
If I can Ease one Life the Aching,
I shall not live in Vain"
Jeevodaya was established on August
15th 1991, in Chennai, India. It is one of the most humanitarian
and challenging projects of our times in India.
A group of committed people belonging to various religions and
from different parts of the country have come to gether with the
noble aim of rendering continuing service to the "POOR &
ABANDONED CANCER PATIENTS". Jeevodaya is thus a supreme example
of National Integration and Unity.
It is therefore Providence that has most appropriately ordained
that JEEVODAYA DAY should coincide with the country's INDEPENDENCE
DAY-15th August.
Jeevodaya is a purely CHARITABLE and NON PROFIT ORGANISATION.

Objectives of Jeevodaya |
When
stifled by Pangs of Pain,
When all strengths fail
And even Tears go dry
We stand by you
To Caress, Comfort and Care for you. |
May we perceive your inner sores too
-the burning Pain and the aching Void,
The haunting fears of Disability, Decay and Death.
May your sufferings make us deeply Human,
So that, we do not let you Fade away
In agony, Pain and Loneliness. |

To be with a person who is dying,
to share consciousness with him and to help him die consciously,
is one of the most exquisite manifestations of true love.
Jeevodaya, provides to the needy, a bed to sleep, clothes to wear,
suitable meals, and above all pain and palliative care and the
right to die with dignity as every human being should.
Jeevodaya also organises burials and cremations to suit the religious
convictions of the deceased.
All this is done FREE. Absolutely FREE.
The Hospice Building is now complete and has rendered free
service to about 1300 patients of whom about 922 have died at
the hospice and last rites performed for 50 of them. The rest
returned to their loved one's to spend their final days.
To date Jeevodaya has conducted 95 cancer screening camps and
have identified 201 cases of cancer in various stages.
"I have personally experienced the pains from a stroke and
knocked at the doors of death and fully understand the FEAR of
dying."
